As the days start to get warmer, we love to get our kiddos outside! This activity combines big movements to provide vestibular and proprioceptive input for self-regulation and also provides opportunity to introduce talking about emotions.
Directions: Draw out a hopscotch path on your sidewalk or driveway with one twist-instead of numbers write out positive affirmation words inside the blocks (Examples: helpful, strong, brave, kind, etc.). On each players' turn, toss a bean bag or rock onto the path. Each player will hop to where their rock landed. When the player picks up their rock, they must answer a question about that word:
Example 1: " Can you tell me about a time when you felt...?"
Example 2: "What is an example of...?"
Help your child as needed to understand each trait/word! This activity helps with self-confidence, emotional regulation, and empathy.
