Every child LOVES bubbles. Not only are they fun to watch (calming visual input) and fun to pop (vestibular input), but when your child engages in deep breathing to blow the bubbles themselves this allows them to calm their autonomic nervous system which controls breathing, heart rate, and digestion. This is helpful when a child is hyper and extra silly, upset, or scared. If possible, prompt your child to breathe in through their nose and breathe out through their mouth to improve the quality of the deep breaths and oxygen flow during the exercise. Allow the child to pop and chase the bubbles in between breaths. An easy to introduce deep breathing practice to your family (just like in Archie's story!).
For an extra challenge have your child do slow, deep breaths in and out to "fill their lungs and belly like a balloon" and then have them try to breathe in and out really fast like a "fire breathing dragon", blowing out short and fast puffs of air. Ask them if they feel a difference and what they like best!
